Aromatherapy Lessens Nausea in Pregnancy

I was reading an old copy of  Massage Magazine, August 2014, and found this article that I wanted to share.

“Lemon essential oil could mitigate two of the most challenging aspects of pregnancy – nausea and vomiting – according to new research published in the Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal.

Lemon essential oil was given to one group of pregnant women. Another group received a placebo.  All participants were instructed to inhale their substance as soon as they felt nausea.  The nausea, vomiting and retch intensity were investigated 24 hours before and during the four days of treatment.  In all, 100 women participated in the study.

The results showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups in the mean scores of nausea and vomiting on the second and fourth days, with lemon essential oil group experiencing far fewer symptoms.  “Lemon scent can be effective in reducing [the] nausea and vomiting of pregnancy,” the investigators concluded.”

So, if you’re newly pregnant and nausea/vomiting is an issue, try some lemon essential oil. It sure couldn’t hurt!

Cheers!
